Dr Linny Kimly Phuong & Registered Nurse Rachael McGuire dive into immunisations & vaccinations commonly recommended for pregnant women & the newborn.

Dr Linny Kimly Phuong is a paediatric infectious diseases physician who holds current appointments at the University of Melbourne, Royal Children’s Hospital and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Linny is an active researcher in paediatric infections with special interests in streptococcal disease, Kawasaki disease and vaccine safety. She contributes her knowledge and expertise to national and international infectious diseases committees including Australia & New Zealand Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ANZPID) and World Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID) committees. She is also an independent reviewer for infections on Safer Care Victoria’s Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity (CCOPMM). In her non-clinical time, she is a mother of a 5 year old daughter and runs an award winning charity, The Water Well Project, which provides health education to refugees and asylum seekers.

Rachael is a Registered Nurse and accredited Nurse Immuniser with a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education. Based in Victoria, she has experience immunising at local council, travel clinics and hospital immunisation services, including SAEFVIC. Her special interests lie in vaccine safety, the immunisation of special risk groups and vaccine equity. Rachael has also been involved in DFAT-funded projects in Lao PDR, providing education and support in-country to improve decision-making around immunisation policy.

During their time with us, Linny and Rachael shares their wisdom & their wealth of knowledge is also drawn upon in a Q&A from the midwives in attendance at the live session.
